Ksenia saw this photo of our kitchen on Flickr and is curious about how our shelves are supported as it seems like they are floating. They are not really floating...
...there are little bracket supporting them from underneath.
As this was one of those little spur of the moment projects in our house we hadn't prepared how to hang the shelves. We rummaged in our garage and found old brass book case brackets which I painted white.
I drilled two holes per shelf in the side of the kitchen cabinet to one side, one centered hole in the grout of the tiled wall at the back and two holes again per shelf in the groutline on the other side. So there are five little brackets per shelf holding them up.

They've been up a number of years now so it works but I wouldn't use these teensy brackets if I were to store my twelve piece dinner service on the shelves. The first aid kit, medicine kit , almond biscottis, colander and garlic are all safe though.
