Some of you have wondered about my book proposal which I sent out. Here's what happened.
I chose the publishing house to send to based on the books I enjoy reading myself and contacted Ryland Peters & Small in London. I assumed I'd get refused right away but to my astonishment they were interested in learning more about me and to get more information and more photos.
After e-mailing back and forth for some weeks, in the end yesterday I got the e-mail telling me that they decided against publishing my book. A couple of reasons being the situation with the current economy and my being far away from them all the way over here in Sweden.
I'm a little sad but at the same time grateful and a little relieved. Sad because I'm missing out on the book tour to see all of you who cheered me on :). Grateful because Alison Starling, RPS's publishing director, gave me some really great and useful input. Thank you Alison if you happen to read this! Relieved because I don't think I realised the pressure I'd put myself through if I'd had a proper book deal. I'd still have had to work in an office job four days a week...
Summa summarum as we say here in Sweden, I'm quite happy with the outcome. It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride and I'm glad I'm back on solid ground again.
So now what? I'm not giving up on the idea of publishing a book. I'll just do it in a different way. I'm looking into self publishing or publishing a (or a couple of) Blurb book/s. My cyber friend Yvonne of Yvestown has just published her's. Can't wait to get my copy which I ordered last night!
Tomorrow I'm having my friend Sanna over. We're making wreaths for our doors and hopefully I'll also get a head start on my holiday cards. Some glittering involved... Still horribly behind on everything. I'm also hoping to get time to mingle with my class mates at Get Organized for the Holidays and work on my Photography class assignments.
Have great weekend!
Ps. Anna, knowing you design book covers I also know you'll cringe at the horrid (they didn't like it at all) mock-up I made. Deep breaths and a good night's sleep and you'll have forgotten all about it :)
