For the longest time I've been wanting new blinds or curtains for most windows upstairs. I find it really hard to choose something which is both practical and simple looking without looking too flat. I've had roller blinds up on all windows facing the garden so far because they face south and we need to get the shade in the summer. After a while though the white fabric yellows and needs changing.
This time I went for off the rack roman blinds in the bedroom and craft area/wardrobe. They're linen and turned out quite nice.
It was a bit tricky to get the level even on such a fairly narrow window so I've given up on the idea of sewing the same style for the 2 meter long window in the livingroom. I'm going to go nuts if it's not 100% straight at all times and I can just see them bunch up enevenly. So one of my next projects is to try and find a better window treatment for the livingroom window and patio door next to it, I think I'll probably end up having to invest in custom roller blinds because of the longer than standard window. Not looking forward to that expense. Do you have any other suggestions for these windows?
With the bought roman blinds came the ugliest plastic hardware which I refuse to use. I added my own ends to the pull strings and used metal hardware to hold the string in place instead. In the bedroom there are now some wooden beads and an upside down vintage hook.
And in the craft area/wardrobe space I tied a silver heart Wille found in the street years ago to the end of the string and screwed a white metal L-hook to hold it in place. Appropriate this time of year, don't you think? Not the L-hook... the heart...you know what I mean...
