So sorry it has taken ages for this post to happen. I have been meaning to explain how to assemble the Meccano lamp in the boat room for ages, because I was asked to, but I never got around to it...

I can't describe the exact nuts and bolts involved so you'll have to look at the photos...
This is the cable I usually use for my lamp re-wiring projects. I buy them in a local DIY store, Clas Ohlson.
I started off by threading the cable through the base, through the middle and up through the nut at the top.
These are the components that go into assembling the top. I can't remember exactly where I bought them but a hardware or lighting store can probably help you out.
Again you'll have to look at the photos step by step. Light bulb goes into socket and metal shade is plonked on top and it's ready. The wiring is simpler than it appears but I can't tell you about the Meccano bit itself as Martin built that. If you like Meccano you'll probably enjoy assembling the lamp too though.
