I got an e-mail from Luna in Portugal who has a small second half bathroom in her apartment that she's not using currently. She wants to use the space for something practical like storing her laundry and supplies out of the way of her kitties.
Luna can't remove the toilet and sink even though there are plumbing issues and really make the big changes but she's allowed to attach things to the walls.
I suggest adding a white countertop under the sink, possibly at the height where there's already a ledge to rest it on. This way she sort of gets a work top. Underneath there's space for two hampers, one with dirty laundry and one with clean/to be ironed.
I'd add shelves above for storage, ideally cut to size along the wall but store bought straight ones will look neat too.
In addition, a Tub Trug for carrying the newly laundered stuff from where the machine is.
I'm a big fan of keeping basic utility stuff white so I'd swap the mop and bucket etc to white and add clear jars and white boxes or baskets for storage.
A fun cover for the ironing board (hung on the wall to the left) sewn out of a favorite fabric will add some color to an otherwise clean space.
Here are some suggestions for Luna but of course similar items are available on-line or in other stores than the one's mentioned.
1. These IKEA shelves would look nice above the work top shold Luna not be able to custom cut hers.
2. Simple white hampers also from IKEA will keep the laundry from being out in the open.
3. Love these simple jars for detergent, sewing supplies, clothes pegs or whatever Luna may want to store. Again IKEA which I know she has closeby.
4. The Tub Trug! Love! These are so cool! Come in six sizes (here I suggest Medium), lots of colors and super useful. Picture kids storage, gardening, lugging stuff around and as a laundry basket for Luna. And no I'm not being paid for this, I just love them and I hope Luna can find one locally.
5. This cool Jenean Morrison for Free Spirit fabrics picks up the green of the Tub Trug and introduces some cirtusy fun as a cover for Luna's ironong board. If the ironing board is wooden the fabric can be stapled on and if it's metal she can sew a simple cover with drawstring for it.
6. When in doubt choose white! It makes the ugly but necessary stuff look nicer and less noticeable.
Hope it helps, Luna!
